L&P Hosting Open House Oct. 8 with Free Giveaways, Free Food!

(Event Celebrates Public Power Week)


(Traverse City, Michigan) — On Saturday, October 8, Traverse City Light and Power(L&P) will be hosting an Energy Smart Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Hastings Street office (1131 Hastings Street). All L&P customers with their families are invited to attend and observe L&P’s operations that provide low cost and reliable electricity. Activities include free food and beverages, free hard hats to the first 200 children, free prize drawings (including restaurant gift certificates and a climb to the top of the L&P wind turbine) free compact fluorescent light bulbs (limited quantities), live demonstrations (including bucket truck operation, pole climbing, and electricity safety), and more!

            “Rain or shine, we’re celebrating Public Power Week,” said Ed Rice, L&P executive director. “We invite the community to join the celebration with Light and Power and over 2,000 other municipally-owned electric utilities that provide electric services on a locally-owned, not-for-profit basis. This is one way we provide our citizens and ratepayers firsthand information on all we do to provide safe, reliable, low-cost electricity with local control.”             

Public Power Week is a national, annual event sponsored in conjunction with theAmerican Public Power Association (APPA). APPA is the service organization for community-owned electric utilities.
