L&P Experienced Outage


(Traverse City, Michigan) — At approximately 4:45 p.m. Traverse City Light & Power(L&P) experienced an outage affecting 4,300 customers. The outage occurred between Garfield Avenue and Barlow Street, to the base of the peninsula. Power was restored to all customers at 7:40 p.m.

            This unusual outage was determined to be caused by a bird contacting a main switching point at Barlow Substation.

“Crews were dispatched immediately and worked quickly and safely to restore power to all L&P customers,” said Ed Rice, L&P executive director.
