M-72 Solar Project

 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Thursday, October 26, 2017

(Traverse City, Michigan) — Traverse City Light & Power (TCL&P) along with the City of Traverse City and Heritage Sustainable Energy, LLC (Heritage) will be celebrating the completion of the M-72 Solar Project on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of this collaborative project that will provide 1 megawatt of solar energy towards the City of Traverse City’s 100% renewable goal.

In December 2016, the City of Traverse City adopted a resolution that set a goal that all City operations would obtain 100% of the electricity it uses from renewable sources by 2020. The M-72 Solar Project through Heritage was approved by the City Commission in July 2017 followed by the TCL&P Board in August 2017.

Project construction began on September 14, 2017 and, over the course of three weeks, a total of 3,400 solar panels were installed on approximately 5.5 acres near the M-72 Wind Turbine.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the site located at 8109 East Traverse Highway.
