(Traverse City, Michigan) — Traverse City Light & Power (TCL&P) will be giving away eastern white pine (pinus strobus) seedlings beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Sara Hardy Farmer’s Market in Traverse City (Union and Grandview Parkway) on April 26th in celebration of Earth Day. The seedlings will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.
2014 marks the 26th year TCL&P has celebrated Earth Day with a seedling giveaway. In 1988, TCL&P held its first annual event at the Bayside Power Plant, giving seedlings away to customers and local community groups. Since the beginning of the seedling giveaway program, TCL&P has donated over 150,000 seedlings to the Traverse City community.
When planting a white pine seedling, or any other trees, remember not to plant them under or near power lines. If necessary, only plant low growth shrubs and bushes under, or in close vicinity of, power lines.
