Dear Value Utility Customer,

As part of Traverse City Light and Power’s (TCLP) ongoing commitment to ensuring the reliability of our services, we are excited to inform you about an upcoming enhancement to our infrastructure. Beginning the week of June 10th, 2024, TCLP will commence the installation of fiber optic communication wire along a route from Eastern Avenue to Port Mission Road, aimed at bolstering our smart grid capabilities.

The project route spans from the intersection of Eastern Avenue/Quail Ridge Drive North to Huron Hills Drive, then extends northward to Center Road, and finally eastward to Port Mission Road. All work will be located within the extent of the existing right-of-way.

This project, slated for completion by the end of July 2024, will be broken up into two stages:

June 10th – Crews will mobilize and begin directionally drilling in a conduit and installing hand holes along Quail Ridge Drive from Eastern Avenue North to Huron Hills Drive. The anticipated completion of the underground infrastructure installation is by the end of June 2024. Areas where grass gets disturbed will be restored with topsoil and grass seed.

July – TCLP’s internal crews will install fiber optic cable through underground locations and construct overhead fiber cable from Huron Hills Drive to Port Mission Road utilizing the existing TCLP pole line.

A map detailing the project area can be found HERE.

The Eastern Avenue/Port Mission Road Fiber Installation Project aligns seamlessly with TCLP’s mission to serve as a trusted community partner, delivering innovative, affordable, reliable, and environmentally sustainable energy and telecom solutions.
